Diameter

Diameter refers to the size of jewelry not including any flares. If there is a reference for flare sizes I prefer to include both flares in the measurment. For example a 50 mm lobe plug with flares would typically be 52 mm with flares, or we could call it +2 mm with flares.

Wearable

Wearable refers to the length of the wearing surface. I do not include the total length of jewelry in my wearable measurment. Refer to the chart above. For double flare plugs I measure between the flares, not including past the peak.

For single flare plugs or labrets with no o ring groove I measure from inside the flare, to the edge of the plug just before it begins to round off. On a no flare plug with no o ring grooves I measure the flat area before the edges begin to round off.

If a single flare or no flare plug requires o ring grooves I take the wearable measurment between o rings. Total length will extend about 3 mm past the groove to allow the o ring enough area to remain secure.

Ovals/Teardrops and other odd shapes

Ovals, teardrops and odd shapes are measured to fit the same as a similar sized round plug. For example if you wear a 19 mm round labret, a 19 mm oval labret will be a perfect fit. To measure any oval, teardrop, or non round plug or labret…

First cut a strip of paper about 3 mm wide. Wrap the strip of paper around your jewelry and make a pencil mark where it over laps. Use a ruler to measure the paper from the starting edge to the pencil line. This is your circumference, which can be divided by pi (3.14) to find the diameter. A piece of string could be used instead of a strip of paper however it can be slightly less accurate.

I prefer to work in millimeters over inches because its easier and more accurate. However I can make your jewelry in Inch sizing if you prefer. When ordering a made to order item select the nearest size in mm’s and add a note along with your item requesting the corresponding inch sizing. All of my pieces are hand made to precise sizes of +/- 0.5 mm. This variance is due to the handmade nature of my pieces.
